Making the cover of Rural Diversity, Elroy the "Super Bee Dog" is showcasing his ability to sniff out diseases in bee hives.

Their sense of smell is pretty amazing, did you know:
  • dogs can smell 100,00 times better than humans
  • dogs can smell things up to 40 ft underground
  • dogs can distinguish two different types of scents when trailing:
    • an air scent from some person or thing that has recently passed by
    • as well as a ground scent that remains detectable for a much longer period (dogfacts.org)
It has even been show that dogs can smell cancer.

Springer spaniel survives 300ft fall off Sussex cliff

Volunteer lifeboat crew member Gavin Butcher with Poppy
Poppy was rescued by the RNLI after swimming to the beach
A springer spaniel survived a 300ft (90m) fall into the sea, after jumping off cliffs on the East Sussex coast to chase a seagull.
Poppy ran over the edge of the Seven Sisters cliffs at Brass Point during a walk, but managed to swim to shore and was picked up by a lifeboat crew.
The dog's owners, Kelly Ixer and Ben Markwick, from Ansty, said they were "indebted" to the lifeboat team.
Poppy was treated for a partially collapsed lung, but has now recovered.
She had been out walking with Mr Markwick's sister and her partner Stephen Winslade.
Mr Winslade, 31, said: "She ran to the edge and just disappeared.
"She is really well-trained and well-behaved, but I think she ran so fast there was no chance of her stopping.
"I threw myself down and looked over the edge and saw her paddling."
